Revive Joinery in Lewes is run by Sussex born friends Ed Gunter and Jon Neal. When they started their business the aim was to turn sustainable materials into high-end unique furniture. Originally they only had a workshop but on the 1st October, they launched their very own store selling a combination of their own creations and a curated selection of products that complement their designs.
Q. Tell us why you opened the store?
Buying a table isn’t simply about the price or the style. Timber is a wonderfully tactile product and the feel of the wood is as important as the colour or design. With this in mind, we’ve always invited our customers to visit our workshops so that they can take a real hands-on approach to their table. With an increase in the number of orders and customers, it became more than apparent that we needed somewhere a little more “customer-friendly” and in late 2018 we decided to open our first showroom in Lewes where people can come and see how their table will look and feel once it’s completed.
Q. Is there a story behind your stores name?
Revive was born from turning reclaimed and sustainable timbers into usable and beautiful creations. We take boards which are considered undesirable or unstable to conventional woodworkers and form them into functional pieces of art through the use of resins, glass and metalwork.
Q. What is the key lesson you have learnt running your business.
Take. Your. Time… Rushing the creation of a table, with or without resin is a formula for disaster. Handmade products are always worth waiting for.
Q. What is one item you can’t live without?
Our Festool range. Or coffee, depending on how late we were at the workshop until on the previous evening.
Q. Where did you first hear about MAiK?
We first heard about MAiK after visiting Top Drawer’s 2018 show at London Olympia.
Q. What is your favourite MAiK product?
Without a doubt the round “Parrot" placemats and coasters. Shades of blue really work well with our live edge Oak tables and are proving a real winner with our customers.
